Drop-In Studio activities for June 13 – 15: This week we are making Father’s Day medals! Decorate metallic cardstock with stickers, markers, stamps, colored tape and decorative papers. We will be crafting box bags and nature wands. Try bubble prints at the paint table. We have a ‘predict and weigh’ science activity: compare 1 cup of rose petals with 1 cup of wooden beads, plus oil and water. For sensory we have space play dough and our new light box is still set up.

Drop-In Studio activities for June 6 – 8: This week we have a few Father’s Day crafts, including card making, laminated bookmarks and glow-in-the-dark pictures using glow glue, glow stars, and glitter! We have another illuminating activity, which is drawing with fluorescent markers and viewing them on a light table with colored lights. We are recycling garden center baskets for a printing activity: with a roller paint bottom of basket, rub paper over paint and up comes an awesome print. We will also be making masks and puppets with all sorts of fun fabrics, feathers, papers and more. Bowls full of nature items are paired with tongs and smaller bowls for a nature sort game. Slime is at the sensory table.

Drop-In Studio activities for May 30 – June 1: This week we’re loaded with color! At the paint table we have liquid watercolors and pipettes for color mixing on paper towels. We have bowls full of colorful craft supplies and bottles of colored glue to decorate wood pieces with. Make a picture with colored tape and foam stickers, or by using water-soluble pencils and crayons that can be dipped in water before drawing with – an interesting effect. Purple play dough at the sensory table, beading and bead making at the back tables, and printing on felt at the easel wall.

Drop-In Studio activities for May 23 – 25: Lots of recycle crafts this week… at the paint table we have boxes and styrofoam taped down for “3D painting,” we’re repurposing clear plastic containers by turning them into colorful window decorations using tissue paper and mod podge, and we are making snakes and sculptures with paper tubes and various craft supplies. We will also be playing with slime, exploring with magnets, doing large-scale lacing, painting at the easel, and the sticky wall is up. Plus we have a new mailbox in the studio just waiting to be filled with kid-mail. :) We have oodles of envelopes, interesting stickers, paper, tape, markers, stamps, transfer letters and more for our mail production.

Drop-In Studio activities for May 16 – 18: This week we have three painting activities! Painting with balls in a huge box, painting wooden shapes with watercolors, and printing with stamps. We will also be crafting spring flower garlands and decorating blank stickers. Our recycle craft is making “clackers”. Cornstarch and water will be at the sensory table.

Drop-In Studio activities for May 9 – 11: This week we have a few Mother’s Day crafts: card making with all sorts of goodies, crafting pipe cleaner crowns, and decorating and stringing wooden hearts. From last week, shadow play is still up. We will also have clay to play with, large-scale printing at the paint table and paint brushed at the easel. Our hand drills are set up with soft wood for drilling into.

Drop-In Studio activities for May 2 – 4: In celebration of May and all its blooming glory we are crafting flowers! Using all sorts of art supplies, ‘grow’ a flower for home or plant it in our window display garden. We have two painting activities: painting with scrub brushes at the easel and making symmetrical paintings by pressing paint-soaked string between paper. We now have a light projector at the studio!! Come and play with your own shadow or make a shadow puppet and tell a story. We will also have play dough, paper strip constructions, and decorating blank stickers.

Drop-In Studio activities for April 25 – 27: This week we have three sensory activities: playing with cloud dough, exploring with polymer balls and colored gel, plus a sound and color bench. We will also be crafting clothespin people, making books, and building with cornstarch ‘blocks’. At the easel wall there will be good ol’ paint brushes. The mirror drawing activity remains up from last week (very popular!), as well as the light table.

Drop-In Studio activities for April 18 – 20: It’s science week at Muckykids! All of the activities have an element of science. At the sensory table we will be mixing potions in trays and test tubes using baking soda, vinegar, colored waters, and cornstarch. We will have huge ice chunks, saltshakers, and liquid watercolors for making ice sculptures. As a painting activity we will be doing pendulum painting. A first at the studio! With hinged mirrors and with large polymer marbles we will be viewing line drawings is new ways: reflect multiple images in the mirrors for a kaleidoscope effect and magnify the drawings with the polymers. At the back tables we will have recycled materials for making things for our on-going city project. We will have lots of paper circles that can be divided into fractions to create images for the city (or to take home). We also have a light table with colored transparencies. In addition, lenses, flashlights and lasers will be out for exploration.

Drop-In Studio activities for April 11 – 13: This week we will be designing badges using oodles of supplies: stickers, letter stamps, decorative papers, shape cutters, markers, irredescent shapes, transfer letters, colored tape and more. Let imagination decide what type of badge it will be! For painting activities we have circle printing at the easel wall and watercolors on the tabletop easels. At the sensory table we have play dough with tools and creature making supplies: googly eyes, feathers, pipe cleaners and straws. In addition there is large scale lacing, wood and glue construction, and crafting bean shakers.
